Hydrogen Refueling Station Design and Integration

Angstrom finished a containerized hydrogen refueling station for a client. The station is able to supply 500kg/12hr of hydrogen at 350 bar pressure via a dual nozzle dispenser which can support heavy duty truck and bus refueling.
The containerized hydrogen refueling station is a pioneer achievement for engineering and integration of FCV applications. The added movable feature of the Hydrogen Refueling Station is essential for fulfilling FCV refueling needs in different locations.

Hydrogen-Based Microgrid Demonstration Project Successfully Completed

In May 2019, Angstrom Advanced Inc. officially completed the Microgrid hydrogen-based power-storage system demonstration project. The project was tested and verified by MassCEC (Massachusetts Clean Energy Center), with results proving the project’s success and operability. The entire process lasted nearly two years, from the initial approval by MassCEC in July 2017 to the end of the project in May 2019. Synthesis Gas, or Syngas for short, is a fuel gas mixture made up of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide which is used to make Synthetic Natural Gas or Synthetic Petroleum. Generally, it’s produced by the coal industry as a byproduct of the gasification of coal at very high temperatures. It is also an important industrial resource in the production of ammonia or methanol, and although it has half the energy density of natural gas, it can be used as a fuel for Internal Combination Engines (ICE). Renewable energy has grown at a dramatic rate in recent years. The US Energy Information Administration has recently reported that renewable energy sources provided 9.81% of US energy consumption and 11.82% of domestic energy production for the first half of 2013, which is about 60% higher than 10 years ago.
However, along with the growth of renewable energy, the controversy never stops. The major concern lies in the real economic value after the renewable energy is integrated into the grid. Since most renewable energy facilities – especially wind and solar – are located in less populated area and far away from the grid, it is expensive to transmit the power to end-users.

Breaking the Gridlock

This past week Massachusetts Governor and the Governors of seven other states signed an MOU focused on Zero Emission Vehicles.
It agrees to the creation of a multistate ZEV Program Implementation Task Force. It contains agreement on a target of 3.3 million ZEV on the road in the eight states by 2025 with annual reporting on the number of vehicles and electric/hydrogen stations open to the public. Each state will establish their own ZEV targets. There is reference to fleet purchases and station being made available to the public.
Section 9 specifically addresses the development of strategies and infrastructure requirements for commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

This is another recognition of Angstrom’s cutting edge technical innovation and its fast expanding fame in the industry: “Here and now gasification plants have the functionality to make the hydrogen economy a real possibility. Greatly reducing the cost of hydrogen production by using renewable resources and advanced, reliable processing techniques enables a gasification plant to produce valuable hydrogen product from waste materials. While the technology is available to enable this functionality, however, most plants opt to simply create SynGas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide.) However, as market demand for hydrogen increases in parallel with the stationary and transportation fuel cell industry, gasification facilities will likely be the top producer of renewable hydrogen fuel – mostly due to the low cost of production and the scalability of plants. This paper will discuss minor changes to gasification plants that plant operators can implement which will maximize the value of their assets, and enable them to easily create a product with higher purity and productivity.
